La scarlattina è una malattia esantematica contagiosa causata da ceppi di Streptococco Beta Emolitico di gruppo A (SBEGA) che producono una tossina detta tossina pirogenica. La tossina pirogenica, nei bambini suscettibili, passa in circolo causando l'esantema e gli altri sintomi della malattia.
