L'edema di Reinke consiste nella progressiva formazione di una irritazione ed edema sotto forma di sacca gelatinosa nelle corde vocali (nello spazio di Reinke). Questi problemi nelle corde vocali causano una disfonia di lunga durata, raucedine e, in alcuni casi, senso di soffocamento.
