Easter è parola imparentata con il tedesco Oster e in entrambi i casi il significato è lo stesso. Deriverebbe, secondo i filologi, da un proto-germanico *austrōn, che a sua volta significa “alba”. E appunto l'alba, la primavera, l'Est (che appunto avrebbe la stessa radice) sarebbe tutto collegato con la Pasqua.
