Il fattore Rh è la causa di una patologia che in passato era molto comune nei neonati: l'eritroblastosi fetale. Durante l'ultimo mese di gravidanza vi è un passaggio di anticorpi, utili per il nascituro, dal sangue della madre a quello del feto, ma gli anticorpi prodotti contro il fattore Rh possono essere dannosi.

se entrambi i genitori sono Rh positivi: il bimbo potrebbe nascere Rh+ o Rh-, anche se c'è una maggiore probabilità che sia positivo; se uno dei due genitori è Rh+ e l'altro Rh-: può nascere un figlio Rh+ o Rh- con la stessa probabilità.
