La microfibra è un tessuto artificiale realizzato dall'unione del poliestere e del poliamide. È estremamente sottile, ancora più del cotone, e risulta poi particolarmente resistente. Questo materiale si caratterizza per la capillarità, ossia la capacità di assorbire l'acqua.

Chi ha inventato la microfibra?

Alcuni sostengono che fu inventato dai giapponesi durante la metà degli anni '70, mentre altri ritengono sia stato introdotto in Inghilterra intorno al 1986. È certo però che fu la Svezia ad iniziare a commercializzare la prima microfibra attorno agli anni '90.

Che differenza c'è tra poliestere e microfibra?

Per legge, non è possibile scrivere in etichetta che un tessuto è composto al 100% microfibra, ma è obbligatorio indicare anche il nome del polimero che la costituisce come, ad esempio, il poliestere. Una dicitura corretta è, quindi, 100% poliestere microfibra.
